IT Audit for Schools
Most schools don't have a clear picture of what IT they have, how well it's working, or where the gaps are. This audit gives you that picture. We look across your hardware, software, networks, and IT governance — and assess all of it against the DfE's digital technology standards.

The Problem
Most Schools Don't Know What They Actually Have
IT in schools tends to grow in layers. Software from five years ago that nobody uses any more. Hardware that's out of date but still limping along. A network set up by a previous provider that nobody has reviewed since. Licences that are paid for but no longer needed.
The DfE now expects schools to have a clear view of their technology — what they have, how it's used, and how it's governed. Most schools we speak to don't have that view. Not because they're disorganised, but because nobody has ever sat down and looked at it properly.
The IT audit does exactly that.
The Service
What the IT Support Audit Covers
The audit covers four main areas:
Hardware and Devices
Software and Licences
Networks and Infrastructure
IT Leadership and Governance
As part of the audit, we also assess where the school stands against the relevant DfE digital technology standards — setting out clearly what's in place, and where the gaps are.
The audit is typically conducted with the school's digital lead or whoever holds responsibility for technology decisions. It doesn't require deep technical knowledge on your part.
What You Receive
Your Report
The report covers all four areas of the audit. For each, we explain what's in place, how it compares to what the DfE expects, and — where there are gaps — what we'd recommend doing and when.
Recommendations are ranked by priority so you have a clear sense of what to address first.
The report also gives you a solid foundation for your digital technology strategy, which all schools are now required to have. Knowing where you are today is the starting point for planning where you need to get to.
There are no cost savings findings in this report. That's not what this audit is designed to do. If cost analysis is something you need — across IT support, telecoms, or broadband — that's covered as part of our Technology Audit, which is a separate service.
What Schools Say

The Investment
Fixed Fee, Based on School Type
The IT audit is priced as a fixed fee based on the size and type of your school. Get in touch and we'll give you a figure straight away - no obligation.
This audit is most useful if your school has never had an independent review of its IT estate, if you're preparing to develop your digital technology strategy, or if you've had concerns about gaps in your setup and want an honest view of where things stand.
If the audit points towards any further work - a procurement exercise, a network upgrade, or support developing your digital strategy - we'll make that clear in the report. Any next steps are entirely your choice.
For Multi-Academy Trusts
Assessing IT Across a Trust
For trusts, the audit works on a school-by-school basis. Each school gets its own report, because what's in place at each site often varies significantly — even within the same trust.
We can also produce a trust-level summary alongside the individual reports, giving you both the detail for each school and a wider view of where the trust stands: what's consistent, what's fragmented, and where the biggest priorities are.
Common Questions About Working with Us
Questions About the IT Audit
No. The audit works with whoever holds responsibility for technology at the school. We ask questions in plain language and guide you through the process.
That’s fine. Schools with simpler setups can have just as many gaps as those with more complex ones. The audit assesses what’s there against what the DfE expects, regardless of size or complexity.
Not necessarily. Some findings lead to straightforward changes that cost very little. Others may point towards investment over time. Recommendations are set out clearly so you can decide what to prioritise and when.
Yes. Knowing where your school stands today is the foundation of any good digital strategy. The audit gives you a clear starting point to work from.
Possibly. IT that works fine day-to-day can still have significant gaps when assessed against the DfE standards — particularly around device management, network resilience, and governance. The audit gives you an independent view of whether what you have is genuinely fit for purpose, not just functioning.
Yes. The DfE standards apply to all schools regardless of size, and primary schools with less IT resource in-house have the most to gain from an independent view.
